Video Pick: Your Presence – Beckah Shae from the Album Rest

Beckah Shae’s song “Your Presence” is from her new album Rest. The songs on the album have a slower, soothing sound from her previous work and remind us to find our comfort in God’s shelter and love. I’m so encouraged by the messages in this album to draw closer to God’s peace and presence, and what Beckah shares about the inspiration behind it…

Beckah Shae on REST…

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

I discovered a “secret place” that has changed my life forever and made me the person I am today.

Let me tell you about this place. It is where I can breathe vulnerably and celebrate my dependence on God and His Word. It’s a place I can make known my heart, with its needs, thoughts and feelings, doubts and anxieties, sorrows and joys. It is a place of refuge from the chaos, storms and confusion of the world. It’s a place consumed by God’s peace that surpasses all understanding. It’s where I receive supernatural wisdom and knowledge. In this place I get visions and revelations to strengthen and equip me. Here, I am repentant and healed. It is where I find my greatest humility and strongest confidence. It’s where I make room to see God’s faithfulness displayed as I practice waiting on and trusting in His love. As I set my affections on Him, my soul becomes recharged, relaxed, refreshed and restored in the shadow of the Almighty. REST.

“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Psalm 91:2.

There is a deep need in every one of us to be close to God. If you’re asking, “How do I find this secret place and REST there?”

Listen to the song “Rest” from the album below:

Shift the focus of your effort from yourself, and direct it to God. Go before Him in adoration and make room for Him. Focus your attention on Him and increase your awareness of being in His presence. Stop. Wait. Expect. Be still. Listen. God has promised that as we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us and we will experience Him with us in ever increasing measures. He wants to reveal Himself to all who seek Him, desire Him, long for Him, crave, hunger and Trust in Him. We must Expect, Believe and have Faith that His Presence will give us Rest and then as we REST in his Presence we must Expect for Him to show us how to do all the rest! Resting in Him allows me to do all the rest with Him.

“God reveals Himself to those that earnest seek Him.” Deuteronomy 4:29

As we REST expectantly in God’s presence, He begins to draw our attention to His word. While most people base their theology on His word, it is really the experiences with Him and the revelation we receive through His Holy Spirit that makes it all come alive. And the more we encounter Him through His Word and His Word, through us, our faith arises and we become filled with the confidence and authority to do all we were called to do and be all we were made to be.

The Lord’s ultimate goal is to be intimate with us in an atmosphere of grace, mercy, truth and love. His Peace must become the soundtrack to the schedule of our life. If His Peace consumes and surrounds you, Whew! life becomes much smoother.

I’ve learned rest is a necessity. In order for me to keep pouring out, I must first position myself to be filled. With all that I have to do, I cannot afford not to rest. Even Jesus would get up very early in the morning and go to the wilderness alone to pray (Mark 1:35)! He needed quiet times with the Father. How many of us truly, purposefully put aside and prioritize this time with God consistently as we should and need? I believe if we order our days first, in God’s presence, we’ll watch our hearts desires be fulfilled. The most important thing we can do as a Christian is rest in His presence. With Him we can let every question and concern fade away knowing that He’s in us, with us, for us and loves us. You see, I’ve learned that when I enjoy the Lord first, I find the grace and strength to complete my assignment and run the race without striving.

“The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

My first worship project entitled “REST.” is releasing September 4th 2012.
This has been a dream of mine for over 7 years and I am extremely excited to get it into your listening ears & hearts! Every album I release reflects the season I’m walking and growing in. This one has definitely been one of Rest.
It is a very different sound from my other projects.

I would describe the sound as calm, serene, relaxing, ambient, tranquil, with a heartbeat. There is movement and stillness at the same time.

It is my desire that this project sets an atmosphere for your time of devotion and intimacy with the Lord. That intimate “you and Him” time, that “place” where you can wrestle, cry, wait, and listen. May He speak to you, comfort you, and strengthen you. May He take you away from the opinions of men and noise of this life to REST in His unchanging truth & everlasting peace that surpasses all understanding, where you can believe Him for all things. May He lead you beside the still waters to a place where there is no fear for tomorrow because you’re embraced with grace by the very one who holds it.

Resting in His Love,

Beckah Shae
