Editor’s Journal Notes – The Beauty of the Butterfly
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” – Maya Angelou
We may look longingly at what may appear beautiful (or successful and esteemed) in our world but many times don’t consider the story behind the person or entity we admire. It’s said that an “overnight success” is never really made over night; it often takes years of toil and trials behind the scenes for every success story we see.
In the life of a believer, the beauty that God intends for us is often molded through a long period of trial, darkness, growth and a period of solitude with God in which our hearts are molded and drawn more intimately to Him. After we surrender our lives to the Potter’s hand the process of becoming more like Him and living His purpose for our lives isn’t always what we expect.
Often before God bestows the blessing He has in store for us, and before He brings dreams into fruition He takes us on a journey that shapes us, a metamorphosis of mind and character. It’s a process that we may not understand and though painful, it graces us to achieve true beauty – a beauty that does not receive its essence from outward appearance but from the heart within that is filled with His presence. Let’s set our eyes on a greater beauty today…
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Music Pick: “With You” and “You Lead” from Jamie Grace’s Upcoming Album “One Song at a Time”
“Whatever I’m doing, I’m just going to get my guitar out, and I’m going to sing the truth. I’m going to sing about Jesus, and when I’m doing speaking, I’m going to speak about my Savior. I’m going to show it in my actions, and that’s really what it’s all about.” – Jamie Grace
Jamie Grace is bringing a unique new sound to the music scene; you’ve got to love her refreshing, relatable music and bright personality. She rocked the stage as a speaker and singer at last year’s Revolve Tour, and this year Jamie Grace is back again for a second round of Revolve in 2012. Her first full album “One Song at a Time” will be released September 20th, featuring favorites from her EP like “Hold Me” featuring TobyMac and “Holding On”. I’m loving both of the new songs she’s sneak peeked so far, “With You” and “You Lead” – take a listen to them and preview the album below. Watch BROKEN the Musical on JCTV
The other day on JCTV I came across the premiere of BROKEN the Musical, a creative stage performance about faith, love and the hurt that we often face in life. I loved the mix of imagery used to portray the moving story of a girl who grows up facing different forms of rejection and pain, and trying to deal with them through everything distraction the enemy throws at her, instead of seeking the One who could truly mend her heart. The musical stars recording artists Callann Lane (who also developed the musical from a play and stars as the main character), Nate Sallie, Darrell Vanzant and Manic Drive’s Shawn Cavallo. There will be encore airings scheduled throughout the month of September with the first encore on Saturday 9/10 at 11pm ET (10p CT).
You can also enter the Broken the Musical Contest to win great prizes at NewReleaseTuesday.com. Click here to find out more and to enter. Visit the BROKEN the Musical website at http://brokenmusical.com to find out more about the DVD, soundtrack, Youth Curriculum, and information on how you could host the musical in your town. Be sure to watch the trailer for the musical above.
More About BROKEN the Musical
BROKEN is a dynamic and moving new musical based on the one-act play “Broken Heart.” Thanks to widespread performances at youth camps and conferences all over the country, the play has been viewed by an estimated audience of more than 4 million people worldwide. BROKEN was developed into a musical by Callann Lane (formerly known as Cali), who saw so much of her own story reflected in the storyline of the main character of the play that she knew it was something she wanted to introduce to an even wider audience.“BROKEN is not shy about covering the issues facing our youth today,” says Lane. “It hits those subjects straight on, allowing teenagers to emotionally identify with the characters in the musical. They watch a girl and guy go down paths that look much like their own. Because of that, teens leave with a very specific choice to make in their own lives.”
BROKEN is the story of a young girl growing up through the pains of life, wounded by her parents, friends and a boyfriend that continues to tear away at her heart. Throughout these life-changing and pivotal moments in her life, a dark and mysterious friend appears to offer dangerous solutions to her problems. Despite her acceptance of these distractions, Jesus continues to meet her where she is, approaching her with compassion despite her reluctance to accept His Love. In her darkest hour, she finds truth and healing in a surprising and powerful way.
