Inspiration: Spensha Baker on Purpose

“Gospel is so real to me and I wanted to stay true to it…A lot of people can sing, you can sing about the things, the feelings, but I wanted to sing about the Giver… It’s important for young people to be sold out for Christ, that’s what’s going to matter in the end. Everything else is vapor. What you do for God is going to count. So that would be my encouragement to young people.” – Spensha Baker in an interview on TBN

Spensha Baker reminds us that our purpose is to live for God, in this beautiful song – “Purpose” from her album “Outloud!” Visit her website www.spenshaonline.com to keep up with her current updates or follow her on Twitter: @spenshabaker

Purpose Lyrics

My purpose is to praise You
My longing is to worship you
My life desires to live for You

I worship You
For the mighty things You do
I worship You
‘Cause in spite of all my misery
And all the things I can not see
I know I can call out Your name

It’s All About How You Look At It – UPSIDE the Movie

UPSIDE is a creative movie about Solomon White, a teen athlete who seemed to have it all but whose vision is flipped after an accident. The story delves into finding identity, love and faith; I love how creative the plot is and the performance of the cast was really believable. Visit the movie website at www.upsidemovie.com to find out more about the DVD and screenings and catch the movie on TBN on Saturday, June 11. Check out the trailer below:

UPSIDE Plot Summary:

It’s all how you look at it…
From the looks of things, Solomon White has a well-mapped future. Finish his senior year of high school, select an elite university, continue his lacrosse career, and reap the rewards of success on whichever road life takes him.

But a devastating hit on the lacrosse field leaves his world literally turned upside down. Will he be able to gain the perspective needed to face his new reality?

UPSIDE provides a fresh look at life through the eyes of Soli (Randall Bentley, “Heroes”), a young athlete struggling to discover where he’s headed, both figuratively and literally. Viewing the world upside down is a challenge few will ever face, but that hardly is the extent of Soli’s pressing concerns.

He has trouble at home with his mom, he’s trying to end his relationship with his girlfriend, and he has to come to grips with a teacher that thinks he can be much more than he wants to be. Suddenly, Soli’s senior year looking nothing like he imagined it would be.

Add in Wren (Leah Sims), an unlikely love interest with a strong faith in God, and Soli must take a new look at everything he believes in.

Can Soli win the heart of Wren, who happens to be blind? Can he believe in something he can’t see? Will he find a new direction for his life, even if his eyesight never returns to normal?

When you can’t trust your eyes, you still have your voice. This unique story is an inspiring reminder that when life gets you down, there’s always an UPSIDE.

Word: Faith Like This – Matthew 17:19-20 & Matthew 21:21

Matthew 17:19-20
Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 21:21
Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

True Things fromJJ Heller‘s album Painted Red speaks so simply and truly to the fact that we aren’t defined by material or physical things by what is deeper and truer…

True Things Lyrics

I’m not the clothes I’m wearing
I’m not a photograph
I’m not the car I drive

I’m not the money I make
I’m not the things I lack
I’m not the songs that I write

I am… who I am
I am who I am

There are true things inside of me
I have been afraid to see
I believe, help my unbelief
Would you say again what you said to me
I am loved and I am free
I believe, help my unbelief

MIKESCHAIR Visiting Tornado Victims, Inspiration from Keep Changing the World & New Single Someone Worth Dying For

Recently MIKESCHAIR traveled to Madison, Alabama, with Way-FM to visit some of those hit hardest by the devastating tornadoes that went through the southeast in April 2011. The aftermath of the storms are heartbreaking to see, yet every helping hand helps. The band encourages everyone to visit www.inside-outministries.org or www.redcross.org to see how you can help those affected by the storm.

The message of their song “Keep Changing the World” featuring clips of their mission trip to Peru, is a fitting reminder of how we can impact the world through God’s love represented through action…

Royal Tailor’s New “Make A Move” and “Hold Me Together” Music Videos

Royal Tailor recently released the music video for their song “Make A Move.” It’s so funky and creative with a great message, check it out below:

We don’t need permission
To go outside of these doors
And dream some crazy dream no one else has dreamed before
To show love and compassion
Wherever we may be, to put faith into action, do more than just believe
We are hope to those who have been broken
We were made to make a difference

There’s more to life / Open my eyes
Someone is needing You / So I gotta make a move
What good are words / When this world hurts
Real faith will come through / When I make a move

- Lyrics from “Make a Move”

Royal Tailor’s single “Hold Me Together,” from the upcoming album, Black & White, is a soothing reminder of how we should rely on God’s strength in life. You can get “Hold Me Together” on iTunes and the album when it releases on 6-7-11. Connect with Royal Tailor on Facebook, Twitter or at their website, http://royaltailoronline.com. Editor’s Journal: Where Am I Called? – Post Grad Ponderings

It’s a question many of us ask at one point in our lives: What is my calling? Where does God want to use me right now; in ministry, in a certain career? For me the question was most urgent after I graduated from college (which I wrote about earlier on Dream in Soul). It was the typical post graduation anxiety – “uh oh – I’ve got be an adult and face the ‘real world’? What do I do now?”

I was confused as to where God was leading me, if I should pursue studying in a certain area of ministry (in my case I felt it might be youth ministry) and I searched my heart and prayed to God to show me which direction He wanted me to go. After a campus ministry conference a few months after graduation I asked one of the leaders Pastor Sample, a youth pastor at a local, what his advice was to someone who felt they might be called into youth ministry. His answer and how he broke it all down was a blessing to me, especially how he explained how you have to hear clearly from God where He is specifically leading you. I thought his advice was fitting for anyone who was questioning the path of their calling so I wanted to share:

Question: How Do I Know if I Am Called To A Certain Ministry?

A: Special training for ministry is great and so is Bible college or a ministry school…but the main thing is that you really hear from the LORD.

He will call you (it sounds like He is) He will give you specific instructions. Do not run out ahead of Him and do not be behind Him. Go at the pace He wants you to go.

You do not need a special degree or anything…you need a confirmed word of the LORD. He never calls the qualified, He only qualifies the called.

When the Lord calls there are usually 5 steps:

1. Calling – divinely dissatisfied with what you are doing – you know you are being called to a specific direction.

2. Training – this is usually done by man…ie..bible school, training school…
