More About Skylar

My goal in being a Christian singer is to be able to impact boys and girls my age to live for Jesus every day whether they’re with friends at school or with friends at church. I want them to know that nothing else can satisfy their need for companionship and love and fulfillment like Jesus does.

My favorite Scripture is Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to Life, and only a few find it.” What this Scripture means to me is that living for Jesus might not always be the easy path, but it’s always worth it in the end.

My other favorite Scripture is Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” It encourages me when I’m really busy and I might start slipping from my faith or I’m just tired…it helps me to stop and remember that He is my God and He is with me and He’s bigger than all of this…it always gets me calmed down. Jesus Christ is my Hope, my first Love, my Security, my Life and my Eternity. I hope He’s yours as well.

Skylar Kaylyn is 15 years old and was born in Mission Viejo, CA, spending most of her life growing up in a small town in Wyoming. She loves her family of dad Randy, mom Summer, her big brother Taran and her little sister Serenity. She also a large extended family and with 16 cousins she enjoys the crazy and chaotic family get-togethers.

Skylar introduces herself and talks about her album below:

She loves dancing…especially hip hop, but can do a mean square dance, too… ice skating, hanging with her friends and family, writing music, playing her guitar and piano, going to the beach, going to church and youth group activities, road trips, taking pictures and scrapbooking. Her favorite animals are cats, especially her cat, Chocolate. Her favorite color is pink and her favorite video game is Mario Kart, at which she revels in beating her friends and family. She loves jewelry, flip flops, and enjoys painting her nails funky colors. She loves the season of spring because she likes being able to see everything grow back again so green after the long colorless Wyoming winter. She learned the martial art of Taekwondo and tested all the way to a blue belt, but then decided she would just depend on her black belt mother and brother for protection. Her favorite subjects in school are Math and Science, and her least favorite subjects are Social Studies and Literature. Some of her other least favorite things are: Roller coasters that go upside down and the constant Wyoming wind, the character flaw of putting other people down, snakes, bugs, and being afraid of the dark.

As for her singing career, she has loved music and has been writing songs since before she could walk or talk, and says, “It’s all I remember.” She has acted, sung, and danced in her community her entire life, singing and acting in her church from a very young age, and now helps to lead worship during church and youth group meetings. She recently started vocal lessons with Christian singer and musician Johnny Britt. In 2011, she started writing songs in order to record them, and says, “I think that I have written about a variety of feelings and issues that people of all ages will be able to identify with.”

Musicians who have inspired Skylar Kaylyn are: Group 1 Crew, TobyMac, Francesca Battistelli, PureNRG, Casting Crowns, JJ Heller, Jamie Grace, Britt Nicole, Beckah Shae, Jeremy Camp, MIKESCHAIR, Fireflight, Red, Skillet, Flame, Lecrae, The Underground praise and worship crew, and her friend and producer Mr. Use.ta. She explains why they have inspired her, saying, “I love their passion for singing and rejoicing in God’s Truth and for spreading the Good News.” She also likes many songs of Shane Harper, Jordan Sparks, Chris Brown, Michael Buble, Owl City, Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Rascal Flatts. Skylar Kaylyn is a fan of all kinds of music, and has been inspired in her songwriting by many musicians.

Skylar Kaylyn wants the world to hear her heart through her songs, and says to anyone willing to listen: “Jesus Christ is my Hope, my first Love, my Security, my Life and my Eternity. I hope He is yours as well.”
