New Album by Mary Mary: The Sound
Mary Mary’s new album “The Sound” is realeased October 21st! Make sure to go get it!
Here’s the description of the album from Mary Mary’s website:
THE SOUND
When it comes to urban gospel superstars Mary Mary, everything is done on a big scale. All of their pursuits—musical, spiritual, or otherwise—are larger-than-life: not a single thing is left to chance. For them, there’s simply no room for halfway, half-done, half-baked efforts. No matter the venture, the bar is always sky-high. Absolutely everything must be handled with an utmost sense of excellence.
This commitment to greatness isn’t novel for them. As far back as their breakout, career-defining first single, “Shackles (Praise You)” in 2000, Mary Mary have time and again gone for broke. Their landmark fifth album for Columbia Records, THE SOUND, is no different. Hands down, the project is their boldest, most complete work yet—a remarkable milestone in their now decade-long trajectory in music.“We represent a great, big God who is excellent, so we like to think that our work represents that, too,” says Tina Campbell, one-half of the best-selling duo. “God’s blessings are new every day. He’s blowing our minds every day. We should be able to speak to a new day in a new way.” Her sister Erica Campbell can’t help but concur: “I wholeheartedly agree,” she says. (Read More in Their Bio)
“Get Up” is an upbeat and motivational track off of the album. I love it’s message and can’t get the beat out of my head. Watch the video below:
“It’s your dreams, Your choice, Your time, Your life
So don’t you, Don’t you, Miss it
What are you afraid of?
Don’t you know what you’re made of?
One of God’s greatest creations
Take this invitation now…” – Lyrics from Mary Mary’s “Get Up”
Tyler Perry on Dreaming and His New Studio

“I am a dreamer and sometimes when you have dreams you are met with obstacles, and your dreams will start to fade. But what I’ve found is that when God has given you a dream, no matter what it is, when you want to give up and believing becomes hard, and when you can’t go any further, the dream itself will start to believe for you. The dream itself will start to carry you through with visions and hope and encouragement.” – Tyler Perry (from www.tylerperry.com) Continue Reading »
Surrendering Your Talents to God: Inspiration from Kim Burrell
Kim Burrell is a truly amazing Gospel singer whose music transcends genres. Her widespread influence resounds throughout the music industry, even outside of the gospel arena. According to a biography online:
“Burrell was featured in a half-hour MTV special “From The Church To The Charts” in conjunction with the gospel themed motion picture Fighting Temptations. Among those who count Burrell as an influence are such contemporaries as Jessica Simpson, Beyoncé Knowles, Faith Evans, Mariah Carey and more. There are many instances of established artists who laud Burrell:
- Chaka Khan deemed Kim Burrell “one of the most interesting voices I’ve heard in a long while.”
- After expressing an interest in gospel music, pop singer Nelly Furtado purchased Burrell’s Everlasting Life on recommendation from Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams.
- In a recent interview on XM Satellite Radio, Harry Connick, Jr. said of Burrell, “if she’s not the greatest musical mind I’ve ever been around, she’s certainly up at the top of the list.” Burrell appears on Connick, Jr.’s most recent album
Burrell was featured on an an interview with TBN a few months ago. (Her interview is three-fourths of the way into the video.) In the interview she talks about totally and uncompromisingly devoting her talent to God.
One of the things she said that was truly moving was that God could have used anyone to minister His word to the world and that if she didn’t keep her heart close to God He would find someone else to do the job. She said candidly that it was His grace and anointing that made her successful today. It is not about us or how great our gifts are, but about bring glory to God, what God can do through us and why He gave us our gifts.
Tyler Perry wrote something similar on his website some time ago. In a message he wrote this March he said:
“Sometimes I feel so unworthy because God could have chosen anyone to do what He’s doing for me, but to know that He trusts me with it is a huge blessing. And to see that the people in the Bible that God used were flawed and ordinary people, except for Jesus–we all know that He was perfect. To see that and learn it helped me to become so much stronger
