SOAR Updates: The Plain Jane Project on Dating and Purity, New Lecrae Video and the “Man Up” Campaign
Check out the latest updates from Dream in Soul’s SOAR Youth & Young Adult section:
The Plain Jane Project – JCTV Interview with Rowena Rodriguez on Dating, Courtship and Purity
The Plain Jane Project is a great ministry and movement encouraging purity and confidence in Christ. Rowena Rodriguez, the founder, shares her story of a period where she felt God was calling her not to date and to pursue holiness. During that time she felt called to minister the message of purity to other young Christian singles. Watch this interview on dating and “the significance of being ‘equally yoked…’”
Lecrae’s New Video “Just Like You” and the “Man Up” Campaign
Lecrae and Reach Records are encouraging young men to answer the call to biblical manhood through the Man Up campaign. Lecrae’s latest video for his song “Just Like You” from his album Rehab is so raw and powerful, and touches on the role models young men sometimes seek to imitate instead of seeking to model God’s image of manhood..
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
Music Pick: Dara Maclean’s “Suitcases” and the Story Behind the Song
The soulfulness and message of the song “Suitcases” from Dara Maclean’s album You Got My Attention are definitely soothing and relatable. You can download the song on iTunes by clicking here.
How can you move when they’re weighing you down
What can you do when you’re tied to the ground, yeah
You carry your burdens, heavy like gravity
Just let them go now, there’s freedom in releaseYou can’t run when you’re holding suitcases
It’s a new day throw away your mistakes and open up your heart
Lay down your guard, you don’t have to be afraid
– Lyrics from Suitcases

Inspiration: Standing On His Promises – Covenant Worship, David & Nicole Binion, Joshua Dufrene, Colin Edge
“We’re gonna see what we’re praying for,
We believe every single word;
Stronger then we’ve ever been,
Standing on His promises.
We’re gonna see the impossible,
We release the supernatural,
Stronger then we’ve ever been, we are standing on His promises!” – From the song “Standing”
The powerful song “Standing” from Covenant Worship is featured on their new worship album Standing released through Integrity Music and recorded live at Covenant Church in Carrollton, Texas. I’m always encouraged by this song and the reminder to stand on the promises of God despite what our situations may look like and “no matter what the world says” (like lyrics from another song on the album “We Will Believe” remind us).
The sound from the Covenant worship team dynamically and boldly invites God’s presence in an intimate way, and you’ll be able experience that unique, soul-soothing atmosphere where ever you are. The album includes 13 songs and 6 videos, with new songs like “Dwell” and favorites that have already moved and made an impact around the globe like “Heaven on Earth.”
I’ve heard of so many testimonies of people who were touched by songs that have come from this house, and seeing that Covenant’s songs have been some of the top viewed posts on Dream in Soul there are many others who have been encouraged. I myself had a time when the song “My Heart Cries” ministered and comforted me deeply on a ride to the hospital and while overcoming an unexpected illness, and sometimes keep the songs playing when I go to bed so I can wake up to the reminder of God’s presence.
You won’t regret checking out this album full of spirit-stirring, uplifting music, click here to get yours today!
(Note, I may be a little biased in my review since I do attend Covenant as I’ve mentioned before on the blog, but do recommend this album from my heart:).
Here’s another one of my favorites from the album, “Your Great Love” which has the feel of a modern hymn. Also watch the intro video for the Standing album below and get your copy here.

Video Pick: Make a Move – Royal Tailor
Royal Tailor recently released the music video for their song “Make A Move.” I love the fresh sound the group brings, and the song and video are so funky and creative with a great message, check it out below:
We don’t need permission
To go outside of these doors
And dream some crazy dream no one else has dreamed before
To show love and compassion
Wherever we may be, to put faith into action, do more than just believe
We are hope to those who have been broken
We were made to make a differenceThere’s more to life / Open my eyes
Someone is needing You / So I gotta make a move
What good are words / When this world hurts
Real faith will come through / When I make a move
– Lyrics from “Make a Move”
Royal Tailor’s single “Hold Me Together,” from the upcoming album, Black & White, is a soothing reminder of how we should rely on God’s strength in life. You can get “Hold Me Together” on iTunes and the album when it releases on 6-7-11. Connect with Royal Tailor on Facebook, Twitter or at their website, http://royaltailoronline.com. Editor’s Video Pick & Inspiration: Hold Me Video & EP from Jamie Grace
I’ve got the song “Hold Me” from Jamie Grace stuck in my head – it’s so upbeat, unique and catchy. For the past couple of weeks I’ve played it on repeat for the girls who I teach at church, to get them focused on their art projects (and to stop talking about Justin Bieber;) and they love listening to it too as they sing along and color. Glad they can appreciate great music…
TobyMac recently signed Jamie Grace to his label Gotee Records and her EP that was released in February is funky, soulful and creative – something I think anyone will enjoy. (You can preview the EP on her Facebook page here.) I got to see her in action at Women of Faith’s event for teens The Revolve Tour Dream On Garland, TX, event in January (check out some pictures I took at the event) and her story and how focused she is at only 19-years-old is so inspiring.
At Revolve Jamie Grace shared her testimony of how God helped her to deal with a diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome when she was 11-years-old and how she started acting and playing music despite hardships and dealing with discovering who she was. She also shared her song “Hold Me,” and an original song dedicated to Revolve. Despite being her first time being on the Revolve stage she seemed like a seasoned pro and was really inspiring and relatable. She’s an awesome inspiration to me on how God can launch you into your dreams if you trust, practice your craft and give all you do to Him.
I’ve been following Jamie Grace on Youtube since a few years back after I stumbled across one of her videos when I was randomly looking for a review of High School Musical 2 (don’t judge me, I was a bored college student;). I loved her videos talking about dealing with Tourettes and song covers she did with her guitar. Now she’s sharing her story and songs around the country; she’s really come a long way and I know this is only the beginning for the amazing places she’s going!
