Calvary Love: Inspiration from Amy Carmichael

February is the month of love, but how much do we really show the true love that God exemplified through the cross to others in our lives? “Calvary Love” is an amazing, inspiring and convicting passage from the book “If” by Amy Carmichael. Amy was a Christian missionary born in the late 1800s who served in India and opened an orphanage – her life and writings were an example of the love she so boldly speaks of:

Amy Carmichael on Calvary Love

If I belittle those whom I am called to serve, talk of their weak points in contrast perhaps with what I think of as my strong points; if I adopt a superior attitude, forgetting “Who made thee to differ? And what hast thou that thou hast not received?” then I know nothing of Calvary love…

If souls can suffer alongside, and I hardly know it, because the spirit of discernment is not in me, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If the praise of others elates me and their blame depresses me; if I cannot rest under misunderstanding without defending myself; if I love to be loved more than to love, to be served more than to serve, then I know nothing of Calvary love…

Soul Dreamer Resource: “I Am Joseph” – Jimmy Evans on Realizing God’s Dreams In Your Life

Jimmy Evans and his wife Karen may best be known for their ministry MarriageToday that enriches and equips couples and families with the teaching and tools they need to succeed. I have been especially inspired by one of their message series entitled “I Am Joseph: The Multi-Colored Impact of Dreams on Your Destiny” that gives encouragement for realizing your God-given dream and persevering when dreams are delayed. The series
is based on the story of Joseph how each of us can relate to his journey from being a young dreamer thrown into a pit to saving his people from the palace. I found myself nodding to myself at so much of the message, and applying the wisdom to my own life and dreams.

You can get the full “I Am Joseph” series as a DVD, CD or MP3 Audio Download. You can watch a clip of the series above for just a snippet of this power-packed series.

“I Am Joseph” Series Description:

God has a dream for each of us to follow, a specific purpose and destiny for our lives. Inspired by the life-story of Joseph, this series explains the role of dreams God’s redemptive plan. You’ll discover the great things that can happen when you give yourself permission to dream.

Reliving the Dream & Legacy – Inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King & Dramatist Steven Loewenstein

From proclaiming the beauty in diversity to the justice of equality, it’s the messages of bold individuals like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who spurred our country into change so that we can represent the vibrant picture of unity that God intended.

For the past 10 years, Steven Loewenstein has been re-enacting many of Dr. King’s public speeches to educate, inspire and motivate others. Memphis to Montgomery is Steven’s 30 minute tribute to the greatest dreamer of our time—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who dreamed a dream higher than himself and taught us to do the same.

I first saw Loewenstein present at my church where he is also a member and am inspired by how he passionately portrays the messages that inspired a nation into change. His delivery is so moving and spot on that if I heard the message from afar I would have believed I was listening to an actual recording of Dr. King.

Below watch the “I Have a Dream” speech reenacted by Steven Loewenstein at an MLK Essay Competition in Frisco, Texas.

You can watch more videos from Steven Loewenstein at his website www.montgomerytomemphis.com.

More From Loewenstein’s site:

“Close your eyes and open your heart and you too will relive THE DREAM.”
-Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer -Vice President for Student Affairs, California State University-Channel Islands

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote, “everybody can be great because everybody can serve.” In the spirit of the servant, Dr. King, Steven Dean Loewenstein serves the community through his powerful oratorical tribute to one of America’s greatest leaders.

Steven presents a one-man performance, embracing Dr. King’s most beloved and heart rendering speeches. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “March on Washington” will come alive through Mr. Loewenstein’s interpretation of “I Have a Dream.” The dramatic experience of the “Letter from Birmingham City Jail” and the poignancy of the “Drum Major Instinct” will unfold before your very eyes and ears as Steven touches hearts with rhetorical eloquence only befitting a “King”!
